Ruthie Sanchez Laviera: The Longtime Stylist to the Stars Still Helping Women Feel Confident

Alexander Whitford

At 80 years young, Ruthie Sanchez Laviera has been styling women for over six decades. She arrived in New York City from Puerto Rico at the age of 16 and began her career as a hairstylist in the early 1960s. Since then, she has become one of the most sought-after stylists in Hollywood.

Laviera's clients have included stars like Jennifer Lopez, Gloria Estefan, and Rita Moreno. But despite her success, Laviera remains humble about her accomplishments. "I just do what I love," she says.

For many women who have worked with Laviera over the years, she's more than just a stylist—she's also a friend and confidante. "Ruthie is always there for you," says singer Gloria Estefan. "She makes you feel beautiful inside and out."

Today, Laviera is still working—and still loving every minute of it. She says that helping women feel confident is what keeps her going after all these years.

"I've seen how much confidence can change someone's life," she explains. "When a woman feels good about herself, it shows in everything she does."

And while some might think that an 80-year-old stylist would be slowing down by now—not so for this trailblazer.

"I don't plan on retiring anytime soon," she says with a smile. "As long as I'm able to help women feel beautiful and confident, I'll keep doing what I love."
