Following the recent news about a legislative resolution to declare "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" as the official film of Oregon, readers have come forward with their own suggestions for a state movie.

Many people nominated films that were set in or featured scenes from Oregon. Clint Eastwood's 1993 Western drama "Unforgiven" was one of the top picks. The film was shot in various locations throughout Oregon and features stunning landscapes from around the state.

Another popular suggestion was Kevin Costner's 1995 adventure drama "Waterworld," which also had many scenes filmed along the coast of Oregon. The post-apocalyptic setting of this film is said to be an excellent representation of what could happen if global warming continues unchecked.

Other movies that were mentioned include Gus Van Sant's 1989 indie classic "Drugstore Cowboy," which is set in Portland and explores themes such as drug addiction and crime. Also mentioned was the animated hit "Coraline" directed by Henry Selick and based on Neil Gaiman’s novel “Coraline.”

While no decision has been made yet on whether any other movies will be considered for this honor, it is clear that there are plenty of great options out there for Oregonians to choose from when it comes time to select their official state movie.
