The Daily Beast Column and Reaction to Trump's Indictment

The Daily Beast has published a column discussing the indictment of former President Donald Trump for alleged war crimes. The column argues that modern conservatives should prioritize their values over defending past actions by elected officials. It also warns against criminalizing politics, as it could lead to personal retribution and a dangerous precedent where presidents are perceived as above the law.

Senator Bill Cassidy (R-La) and Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) have criticized the indictment as politically motivated, arguing that it distracts from other pressing issues. Representative Claudia Tenney (R-NY) has accused Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg of weaponizing government institutions to target political adversaries.

Former Attorney General Bill Barr called Bragg’s indictment an “abomination” and believes that it will backfire on Democrat Joe Biden.

Trump's legal team plans to make a motion to dismiss charges against him on Sunday, calling them "politically motivated." On Tuesday, he is scheduled for arraignment on 32 counts stemming from actions taken during his presidency.

Former Manhattan DA Cy Vance shed light on why Trump is only now being charged for activities dating back to 2016, revealing that the Department of Justice had asked his office not to pursue certain investigations at the time. Vance expressed surprise at federal prosecutors' decision not to pursue charges against Trump earlier.

As Trump faces multiple legal battles related to his efforts to prevent Joe Biden's victory in 2020, many are watching closely how these indictments will play out in court.
