Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has hit back at New York City Mayor Eric Adams after he warned her and others planning to protest Donald Trump's pending indictment to “be on your best behavior” during their demonstration on Tuesday. The former President is set to appear in criminal court in the city, facing dozens of charges related to hush money payments made ahead of the 2016 presidential campaign.
During his speech, Adams said that while there were no specific threats, Taylor Greene stated she was coming to town to protest the decision. However, Greene responded by attacking the mayor and Democrats, claiming that they should be more concerned about citizens and taxpayers being murdered, raped, robbed and carjacked than an elected member of Congress coming into town.
She also criticized D.A. Alvin Bragg and compared New York City with Gotham City from DC Comics Universe.
"Mayor Adams should be focused on protecting his city from crime instead of worrying about law-abiding Americans exercising their First Amendment rights," said Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene.
The planned protest comes as a response from supporters of former President Donald Trump following allegations against him for document fraud made during the 2016 presidential campaign.
Trump has denied any wrongdoing and called it a "witch hunt." He also accused DA Alvin Bragg of being "racist."
The investigation centers around hush money payments made ahead of the election by Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen to two women who claimed they had affairs with him.
Special counsel Jack Smith is overseeing multiple investigations into criminal probes involving former President Trump. Additionally, he faces trial on civil rape and defamation claims brought forward by writer E. Jean Carroll.
Newsweek has contacted both Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene via Facebook as well as Mayor Eric Adams via his official website for comment.
