Virgin Media, one of the UK’s most popular broadband providers, has been hit by a widespread outage that is leaving thousands of customers without internet service. The company's service status page is down and its television services are also affected.
According to DownDetector, which tracks outages, tens of thousands of reports have been received from across the country about issues with landline internet connections. 24% were reporting total blackout while two percent had trouble with TV streaming.
The cause of the outage remains unclear at this time. However, it has led to frustration among customers who rely on their home broadband connection for work. One Twitter user reported difficulties in working from home due to the outage while another questioned whether he could invoice for lost earnings because his internet service was down.
This latest incident comes just months after a significant issue impacted hundreds of users on Virgin Media services. With flooding being reported across the country as well, many people are struggling to access web content.
At present, Virgin Media recommends that users check their service status on its Help page for updates on when they can expect their connection to return.
This is a developing story and we will update our readers when more information becomes available.
