Florida Governor Aides Attempt to Prevent Trump Endorsements Amid 2024 Speculations

Florida Governor Aides Attempt to Prevent Trump Endorsements Amid 2024 Speculations

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has reportedly instructed his aides to make phone calls to Republican lawmakers in their home state, urging them not to endorse the potential 2024 presidential bid of former President Donald Trump. This strategy is part of a desperate effort by DeSantis and his team to consolidate support within the GOP following recent developments.

Earlier this week, Rep. Byron Donalds announced his endorsement for Trump's possible campaign. The congressman's move was highly significant due to his status as an up-and-coming GOP star and close ally of Gov. DeSantis. Additionally, at least six Florida Congresspeople have been targeted in the recent blitz by DeSantis' aides, including Reps. Greg Steube, Aaron Bean, Kat Cammack, Vern Buchanan, Laurel Lee and Mario Diaz-Balart.

A recent report revealed that these efforts are intended to halt further endorsements for Trump from members of Florida's congressional delegation before they gain momentum or influence others within the party.

Rep. Matt Gaetz had previously endorsed Trump for a potential 2024 run; however, it was Donalds' endorsement that caught attention due to its impact on other key Republicans across the nation. According to insiders who spoke anonymously with our news outlet:

This situation unfolds while Trump faces criminal charges connected with an alleged hush-money case involving adult film actress Stormy Daniels—a development that could potentially harm both him and any chances he may have at securing another term in office.

While Gov. DeSantis has yet publicly commented on the matter or confirmed whether he will also be running for president in 2024 himself—despite being a popular choice among Republicans—it seems apparent that he is taking steps behind-the-scenes aimed at ensuring stability within the GOP and preventing further controversy.

As Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart told us during a phone interview:

The coming months will likely reveal more about DeSantis' intentions, as well as how successful his efforts have been at curbing endorsements for Trump among Florida lawmakers.
