Jury Reaches Verdict in Proud Boys Seditious Conspiracy Trial

Jury Reaches Verdict in Proud Boys Seditious Conspiracy Trial

A jury has reached a verdict for at least some of the five members of the far-right Proud Boys organization who are facing charges of seditious conspiracy in connection with the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Enrique Tarrio, Joseph Biggs, Ethan Nordean, Dominic Pezzola and Zachary Rehl each face nine counts, including the rare charge of sedition under a Civil War-era statute.

The trial unfolded over the course of four months, with jury selection beginning in December 2022 and opening arguments starting in early January. The Proud Boys trial was the third seditious conspiracy case to go before jurors since the Capitol attack, and several other Proud Boys have pleaded guilty for their actions on Jan.6.

Nicholas Ochs, founder of Hawaii's chapter was sentenced to four years in prison last December after being found guilty.

Four members of the group were convicted Thursday—including former leader Enrique Tarrio—on charges relating to their plot to keep President Donald J.Trump in power after his election defeat by leading a violent mob that attacked Capitol Hill on January 6th last year (2021).

This verdict represents another milestone for Justice Department prosecutions against those involved with pro-Trump riots which stormed Washington DC's heartland; six defendants had already been charged—and subsequently found guilty—of various serious felonies as part this ongoing legal campaign against key figures associated within these events nationwide since then (including previous two major cases involving sedition conspiracies).

Roger Parloff—a Lawfare editor—provides further information regarding requests from juries during deliberations process throughout this lengthy federal-level proceeding which began back on January 12th earlier this year (2023), taking approximately sixty-two days total prior reaching its conclusion now being announced today via media outlets everywhere across United States & beyond worldwide too as well also elsewhere around globe itself indeed.

According to the prosecution, these men conspired together in order to forcefully oppose US government authority by any means necessary (including use of actual force) with intent purpose behind their actions being solely focused upon stopping official certification process required for electoral votes counting procedures.

The arrest and subsequent trial of these individuals occurred before President Joe Biden's inauguration—indicating that even previous GOP-led Justice Departments had been pursuing charges against militia members involved within such violent activities nationwide throughout past couple years already too as well also elsewhere around country at large overall generally speaking.
