Labour has successfully won back control of the Stoke-on-Trent City Council, securing the 23 seats needed to wrest it from the Conservatives. Former Labour MP Baroness Anderson acknowledged that while this victory is significant, there remains a "huge amount of work to do" in preparation for the general election. She added that starting tomorrow, "my city is red."
In addition to losing control over Stoke-on-Trent City Council, the Conservatives also suffered a loss at Tamworth Council. The result was no overall control for any party in Tamworth. Jeremy Oates, leader of the Conservatives in Staffordshire area said that these outcomes will send shockwaves throughout the Conservative Party across staffordshire.
Meanwhile, Labour managed to regain control of Exeter City Council for a second consecutive year. However they lost one seat in St Thomas to former Liberal Democrat council leader Adrian Fullam. In other changes within Exeter's local politics scene; Greens secured a win in Newtown and St Leonard's - marking it as the only other seat changing hands.
As it stands now with current distribution; Labour holds 25 seats on Exter’s council body while Greens have six representatives , followed by four seats held by Conservatives and three belonging to Liberal Democrats with one Independent member completing roster.
The success experienced by Labour taking back control over Stoke-On-Trent city council can be attributed partly due collapse among independent politicians which allowed them gain many seats previously held independents such as those who had served under past administrations or those who switched allegiance from their original parties during political career tenure thus giving an edge when capturing majority share required form new leadership government within region
