Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) claims to have damning evidence of Hunter Biden's alleged involvement in a sex trafficking scheme, citing bank statements and SARS reports that show the transfer of money between Hunter Biden and prostitutes. According to Greene, the women are from Russia and Ukraine – countries she alleges President Joe Biden has funneled money to.
In a statement made during a press conference, Rep. Greene said: "Hunter Biden is a purely disgusting, vile human being who has embarrassed this country." The FBI and IRS began investigating Hunter Biden in 2018 amid allegations of shady business dealings in China and Ukraine.
As these accusations surface, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) is threatening to subpoena the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia for questioning ahead of an oversight hearing on public safety in D.C., scheduled for May 16th. This will be the second hearing so far examining crime trends and city management issues.
Comer invited Matt Graves, U.S. Attorney for D.C., along with Mayor Muriel E. Bowser to appear at the upcoming hearing. However, the Justice Department declined to make Graves available to testify – increasing pressure on him amidst scrutiny over low prosecution rates within his jurisdiction.
The rise in declined cases has sparked frustration among city leaders already under national scrutiny by members of Congress regarding their crime-fighting efforts.
"The GOP-led committee remains persistent about wanting control over Washington D.C.'s affairs while avoiding addressing larger issues facing our nation," commented political analyst Stephanie Warner.
The fallout from these controversies will undoubtedly continue as more information comes forth regarding both investigations involving prominent figures such as those mentioned above.
