China, Pakistan, and Afghanistan Pledge Cooperation on Security and Counterterrorism

In a landmark meeting held in Islamabad, foreign ministers from China, Afghanistan, and Pakistan have come together for the first time since the Taliban took power in Kabul. The officials pledged to further strengthen trilateral cooperation on security matters and counterterrorism initiatives.

During this historic gathering of foreign ministers from the three nations, they agreed to uphold good relations between their countries while deepening political mutual trust. These commitments include respecting each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as addressing differences and disputes through equal consultation.

China has already invested billions into neighboring Pakistan through its ambitious infrastructure project known as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Both China and Pakistan have also expressed support for the Taliban-led Afghan government in its efforts to build capacity in handling terrorist actors within their borders.

In joint statements made during this meeting, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said: "We must deepen our cooperation with a focus on anti-terrorism measures… We need to work together so that terrorism doesn't take root again."

Pakistan's Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi added: "It is critical that we maintain regional peace by jointly combating terrorism."

Both Chinese and Pakistani representatives voiced their opposition to any interference in Afghanistan's internal affairs. They also condemned illegal unilateral sanctions against Afghanistan along with actions undermining regional peace or stability.

The Pakistani foreign ministry released an official statement expressing these sentiments: “The participants underscored the need for international community assistance towards continued support for Afghanistan.”

This pledge of cooperation among China, Pakistan, and Afghanistan signals increased collaboration between these nations regarding security issues while demonstrating a unified front against threats posed by terrorist organizations operating within their territories. With all parties committing themselves to maintaining peaceful relations amid ongoing turmoil worldwide – including recent events unfolding across Central Asia – it remains clear that concerted efforts are being made towards achieving lasting stability throughout this region.
