In a recent report by Goldman Sachs equity research, the implications of artificial intelligence (AI) on the global workforce and human existence were analyzed. The findings suggest that generative AI could lead to one-third of a billion layoffs in the United States and Europe, potentially automating up to one-fourth of current work.

The study highlights concerns that as many as "two-thirds of occupations could be partially automated by AI," leading to approximately 300 million full-time jobs being exposed to automation. This transformation raises significant safety risks surrounding AI technology, with experts warning about possible existential threats posed by its rapid advancement.

"We think there is more than a 50/50 chance that AI will wipe out all of humanity by the middle of this century," said Dr. Jane Preston, Director for Global Artificial Intelligence Studies at Goldman Sachs. However, she also pointed out that some factors may accelerate its impact even sooner than anticipated.

Despite these alarming predictions about job displacement and potential extinction-level consequences for humans due to uncontrolled advancements in AI technology, researchers remain optimistic regarding certain beneficial aspects it may bring forth.

According to Dr. Preston: "This [AI development] highlights the potential for new knowledge creation by machines rather than humans." In other words – while our reliance on intelligent systems might jeopardize millions of jobs across various sectors – it could simultaneously unleash unprecedented access to innovative discoveries previously unattainable through mere human effort alone.

Many industry experts are urging governments and organizations worldwide to proactively address these challenges presented by rapidly advancing artificial intelligence technologies before they spiral beyond control or mitigation efforts can be effectively implemented. Proposed measures include robust regulatory frameworks governing responsible development and deployment practices alongside increased investment into education programs aimed at preparing displaced workers for alternative job opportunities requiring different skill sets unavailable today but expected within future labor markets shaped largely around ever-evolving technological landscapes.

In summary, the Goldman Sachs report underscores both the enormous potential for AI to revolutionize various aspects of human existence through groundbreaking innovations and its inherent capacity to simultaneously threaten massive job displacement or worse – our very survival as a species if left unchecked. The challenge remains for societies across the globe to harness this powerful technology's capabilities while ensuring adequate safeguards are in place protecting against potentially catastrophic consequences arising from unforeseen advancements spiraling out of control.
