The Waikiki Business Improvement District Association (WBIDA) has announced the appointment of Trevor Abarzua as its new Executive Director, effective May 22. Abarzua brings a wealth of experience in community development and urban planning to his new role, where he will be instrumental in overseeing the implementation and management of various projects aimed at revitalizing and maintaining one of Honolulu's prime tourism areas.

Abarzua previously served as a director for several non-profit organizations focused on community development and economic growth initiatives. With over two decades of experience working with local businesses, government agencies, and community stakeholders in Hawaii, Abarzua is well-equipped to lead WBIDA into a new era.

In an official statement released by WBIDA Board Chair Susan Yamada: "We are thrilled to have Trevor join our team. His extensive background in strategic planning, project management, and stakeholder engagement makes him perfectly suited for this crucial leadership position within our organization."

As executive director, Abarzua will be responsible for driving the overall vision and strategy set forth by the board while managing operations related to public safety enhancements, beautification efforts, marketing strategies targeting both locals residents and tourists alike. Additionally he'll work closely with local business owners ensuring their interests are represented during discussions about policies affecting district operations.

"I am honored by this opportunity to serve such a vibrant neighborhood," said Trevor Abarzua regarding his appointment. "I look forward to collaborating with local businesses leaders on creating innovative solutions that enhance quality living experiences while promoting sustainable growth practices throughout Waikiki."

A reception welcoming Mr. Abarzua is planned for late May; details will be made available soon through WBIDA’s communication channels.

With tourism showing signs of recovery post-pandemic restrictions lifting across America's stateside destinations like Hawaii may begin experiencing increased visitor numbers once again providing ample opportunities for Abarzua and the WBIDA team to showcase their revitalization efforts.

The Waikiki Business Improvement District Association, founded in 2000, is an organization dedicated to maintaining a clean, safe, and vibrant neighborhood for residents, businesses as well as visitors. Through collaboration with various stakeholders such as government agencies, property owners local community leaders they aim at creating environment that promotes economic growth while preserving unique cultural identity of Waikiki's district.
