Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley, the lead actors of the popular TV series "The Vampire Diaries," have revealed that they developed "insane anxiety issues" while filming certain scenes for the show. The reason behind their condition? Too much caffeine.
According to sources close to the production team, during certain scenes in which their characters had to drink tea or coffee, Somerhalder and Wesley were required to drink an excessive amount of caffeine-based drinks. This was done in order to make it appear as though they were consuming actual beverages on camera.
However, this requirement led both actors down a path of excessive caffeine consumption that resulted in them suffering from severe anxiety issues. In fact, according to Somerhalder himself, he had never experienced such intense levels of anxiety before drinking so much tea during filming.
Wesley also confirmed that his co-star's experience was similar to his own - he too suffered from anxiety due to overconsumption of caffeine during filming. He stated that it got so bad at one point that he had trouble sleeping at night because his heart rate would not slow down.
This revelation comes as a surprise since "The Vampire Diaries" is known for its supernatural content rather than its use of caffeinated beverages. However, it goes on to highlight just how grueling acting can be and what lengths some actors will go through in order to deliver their best performance.
Despite facing these challenges while shooting for "The Vampire Diaries," both Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley are still remembered fondly by fans for their outstanding performances throughout the show's eight seasons.
