An early-morning house fire in Gresham claimed the life of one person on Monday. According to officials, firefighters responded to a report of a blaze at around 3 a.m. The incident occurred in the 17600 block of Northeast Couch Street.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and no further details have been released regarding any possible injuries or damage to the home.

Gresham Fire Department spokesperson, Emily Burris said that crews worked quickly to put out the flames but unfortunately found one individual dead inside the house. The identity of the victim has not yet been released by authorities.

Burris also urged residents to prioritize safety when it comes to home fires: "We always recommend having working smoke alarms on every level and sleeping area in your home," she said. "It's important for everyone's safety."

This tragic event serves as a reminder for families across Gresham about how important it is to take precautions against fires at home. Our thoughts are with those affected by this devastating loss during such difficult times.
