The local community came together on Saturday to hold a fundraiser in support of cancer research. The event, held at the community center, was organized by a group of volunteers who have all been personally affected by cancer.

"We wanted to do something to make a difference," said Sarah Johnson, one of the organizers. "Cancer is something that affects so many people in our community and we wanted to show our support for those who are fighting it."

The fundraiser included a silent auction with items donated by local businesses and individuals, as well as live music and food trucks. All proceeds from the event will go directly towards funding cancer research.

"We're really grateful for all the support we've received from the community," added Johnson. "It's amazing to see everyone come together like this for such an important cause."

One attendee, Karen Smith, shared her personal experience with cancer and how events like these give hope to those affected.

"I lost my husband to cancer last year," said Smith. "Events like this give me hope that someday we'll find a cure so no one else has to go through what my family went through."

The fundraiser raised over $10,000 for cancer research and organizers are already planning next year's event.

"This is just the beginning," said Johnson. "We want to continue doing our part in making sure that one day we can beat this terrible disease."
